“Shopping At The New Piggly Wiggly”

The utopia of a new supermarket opening with it’s
products displayed purposely, waiting, like objects
arranged on a shrine - each having it’s specific place.
Rows, lines and grids of jars, boxes, packages, all
bright, new, untouched, pristine as if photographs in a
museum. I remember the intensity of the tide bottles,
the glowing artificial reds of Maraschino cherries.
Everything seemed to promise the solution to a
problem, a problem I couldn’t quite articulate.
